Room 4's Poems

Happiness by Fleur

Happiness
Joyful, Fun
Laughhing, Giggling, Smiling
Happiness is yellow like the sun.
Bliss

Sadness by Libby

Sadness is blue like the endless sea,
It tastes like rice bland and tasteless,
It smells like sewage pungent and disgusting,
It looks like a never ending pit,
It sounds like the echo in a dark tunnel,
It feels cold and relentless.

BP Water Tower Tech Challenge

On Friday we did another BP Tech Challenge. This time it was alot harder because it had to hold a 750ml bottle. We could only use Newspapers, sellotape and string. The winners were: Michael, Edward and Elson that managed to hold 1.5l.

Well done Guys.

Enterprise Poem

Edmund Hillary, a New Zealand hero.

New ideas are always needed.

Trains. From Steam trains to the Maitangi train.

Entrepreneur

Relating ideas to others

Projects are made and changed to satisfaction

Risks are a big part of Enterprise

I is for ideas that are always needed

Selling is also quite a big part of Enterprise

E is for Enterprise

BP Tower Tech Challenge

As part of our Enterprise unit we have been constructing towers, only able to use a small roll of sellotape, 10 pieces of newspaper and our mind. The tallest in our class was approximately 3.5 metres made by Pererika, William, Justin and Ryan.

Congratulations to Nasan from our class for making the team to represent our school along with 3 others. These four will be entering their own ginger beer in the Wellington competition made entirely by themselves!

3. An identical Taj Mahal was supposed to be built in black marble instead of white. The base of it can still be seen across the river.
4. Over 1,000 elephant were used to transport building materials during the construction.
5. In all, 28 types of precious and semi-precious stones were inlaid into the white marble.

Soccer Tournament

Recently we have had The finals to the Tawa Intermediate soccer tournament 2011. In the finals the classes were RM 5 vs RM 8. All of Huia Syndicate got into the semis but unfortunately only RM 5 got through to the finals. It was an intense finals but sadly Rm 5 Lost which obviously means Rm 8 won.

Dogdeball Tournament 2011 Starts next week.

Royal Wedding Similes

Add a simile as a comment to this post describing something to do with the royal wedding.

Explain how your simile works, what is it doing? Does it create an image in the reader's head? How? Does it add more description? How?

E.g.

The Queen looked as fresh and pretty as a daffodil on a spring day.

My simile compares the queen to a daffodil as this is similar to the colour she was wearing. She also looked fresh and new like a spring day.

Term 1 Reflection

Kia Ora its me Fleur.

Term 1 in room 4 has gone great. I would like to say congrats to our teacher Miss Goldfinch as she is getting married these holidays. On Friday we gave her a surprise shared lunch and she was really pleased by what we had managed and how we managed to keep it a secret as it is quiet hard for some students in our class.

Using our blog 2

Ok, so we are starting to put details about what we have been up to on our blog, thank you to Bailey and Fleur for taking charge of this :)

Now I would like you to think about the layout of our blog.
  1. I have changed the goldfinch picture to a huia - should we leave the huia there or put a class photo or even something else?
  2. Is there anything we should change about the layout? Do you want/like the counters showing who has visited?
  3. Yr 8's last year we put a quote up every couple of weeks. Shall we keep this part or change it for something else?
Please reply to these questions by adding a comment with your name :)

Learning statements

In Room 4 we have been discussing about what our learning statement would be for 2011

here are some of our ideas

· Learning is a door, the more you learn…..
· Learning is like a swing you have your ups and downs but you’ll be fine.
· Learning is like surfing because it’s hard at the start but when you get better it’s worth it.
· The way to expand
· A key to life it unlocks any doors
· Like petrol for your car
· Your playground so have fun.
· Like a never ending ladder, it just keeps on going
· A shooting star
· Like a circle it never stops
· Like space it never ends
· Like a chest, you have to open it
· Like driving a car you go faster and faster but you need to slow down to turn corners
· Like Edward, it never stops talking
· Like a never ending water bottle, it just keeps giving you stuff
· Like fuel for your mind
· Like a board game going up ladders and down snakes.

Using our blog 1

This year we will be using our blog a bit differently to how it was used before. It is going to become a virtual window into our classroom. This means that we will need to regularly update the blog with what we have been up to.

So what I want to find out is: What types of things do you think we should be putting on our blog?

Please use the comment button below this post to add your ideas, make sure you leave your name as well.
